Multiplexers & Demultiplexers
Multiplexers (MUX) and Demultiplexers (DEMUX) are digital logic ICs used to control and route multiple signals efficiently.
- Multiplexer (MUX): Selects one signal from several input signals and sends it to a single output. Selection is controlled by select lines.
- Demultiplexer (DEMUX): Takes a single input signal and routes it to one of several output lines based on the select lines.
- Common applications: Data routing, communication systems, digital switching, signal selection, and computer networks.
In simple terms, a MUX is a “many-to-one” switch, while a DEMUX is a “one-to-many” switch.
