A switch is an electromechanical device that controls the flow of electricity in a circuit. In the OFF (open) position, the circuit is interrupted and no current flows; in the ON (closed) position, electricity passes through. Snap-action switches operate with a quick, tactile mechanism that turns contacts ON or OFF with minimal force. They convert mechanical movements into electrical signals and are commonly used for position detection.
